The band formed in 2019 when Ryan Donnelly, Connor Jones, and Ian Anderson decided to join forces. Ryan and Ian began jamming together in New York City while attending a Music Technology program at NYU. Meanwhile, Connor and Ryan were former bandmates and childhood friends who had been reconnecting through music in recent years.  When the three of them finally got together to jam, it was clear that there was something special worth pursuing at a group. 

Ryan is the front man, lead songwriter, and producer. Connor is the keyboardist, synth wizard, and Swiss army knife with a unique ability to play a range of other instruments. Finally, Ian is the lead guitarist, pop-punk enthusiast, and chief officer of shredding.  

The band takes its name after a legendary comet with an incredible story. Comet Lovejoy was on a direct path to collide with the sun, and astronomers feared that it's chances of survival were very slim. To everyone's amazement, the comet survived in glorious fashion. With a glowing green tail, Comet Lovejoy came out the other end spewing sugar and alcohol into the night sky for all to see. To the band, the comet's story is an inspiring metaphor to pursue your dreams, defy the odds, and live life to the fullest.  

While the band may early in their journey, Comet Lovejoy has big dreams and a bright future ahead.
